A dazzling winter treat

A delight to visit at any time of the year, Blenheim at Christmas is extra special.  A masterpiece of Baroque architecture, the Palace is home to the 12th Duke of Marlborough & his family, it was the birth place of Sir Winston Churchill & is now a UNESCO world Heritage Site.  At Christmas you can explore the state Rooms, seasonally decorated & lavishly themed into a magical festive world.  The rooms will be sprinkled with hidden surprises & the sights & sounds of Christmas stories.  Outdoors you can follow a dazzling illuminated Christmas lights trail with lasers, projections & thousands of pea-lights. 

 

The Double Tree by Hilton, Nr Oxford****

This 4 star hotel is set in 17 acres of beautiful grounds, 8 miles from the historic centre of Oxford. Rooms at this hotel have been newly refurbished and are set around 2 courtyards with flower borders and a sparkling fountain, along with relaxing spa facilities including an indoor swimming pool.  After a busy day enjoy a freshly prepared meal in the Rycote restaurant, using only local ingredients, and then finish the day off enjoying a beverage in the Terrace Bar with its bistro style atmosphere.

Monday 9 December

We travel towards Oxford with an afternoon visit to Bicesters famous discount shopping centre. From here we continue on to our hotel with time to settle into our rooms before dinner is served.

Tuesday 10 December

After a full English breakfast we travel to the University City of Oxford to explore the beautiful historic City. Oxford is made up of 38 independent colleges, including the magnificent Christ Church & Wadham College and their quads & buildings can be found all over the city. Why not take a walking tour to explore & find out more about Oxford Universitys history, architecture & traditions. Historical museums to visit in Oxford include the world famous Ashmolean Museum founded in 1683. After a full day we head back to the hotel in time for dinner.

Wednesday 11 Decembe

A day at Blenheim Palace. Explore the State Rooms, seasonally decorated and lavishly themed into a magical fairy tale fantasy world of Cinderella. Wander along colonnades & through historic rooms filled with hidden surprises the sights & sounds conjure up much-loved fairy tale characters. The stepmothers drawing room set for afternoon tea, the ugly sisiters room is bright & bold, scattered with clothes, books & shoes, whilst Cinderellas room is home to her delicate hand-made gown. Walk further into the crystal world of The Fairy Godmother, then along to the prince charmings grand room. Midnight strikes, the clocks chime & as the story ends hang your own wish upon the Wishing Tree in the romantically candlelit chapel (theme may change).
We will be served an early dinner in the Marlborough Room in the East Courtyard.
The Blenheim Palace winter Trail will be brighter than ever before with lasers, projections & thousands of pea-lights. From the delicate & twinkling to the grand & spectacular, the formal Gardens will light up once again for a festive journey of exploation & wounder. Wander beneath unique tree canopies drenched in seaonal colour, shards of light, frosty snowflakes, stars & glistening baubles. Hightlights include a new field of lightys, scented fire garden, canopy of light & the mesmerizing voicew of the singing trees.

After a leisurely breakfast, we make our way home to Devon. Taking a stop at Gloucester Quays on route home.
