After a full English Breakfast in our hotel, enjoy a free day shopping and sightseeing in the beautiful spa town of Harrogate. With its quaint streets, historic architecture, independent shops, antique shops, cosy eateries and tea rooms you will find plenty to keep you busy all day. No visit to Harrogate would be complete without a visit to Betty's Tea Rooms - a Yorkshire institution. Don't let the queues put you off - it's worth the wait. Enjoy staff dressed from a bygone era, traditional cake stands, stunning views and the most wonderful traditional cream tea.
D, FEWednesday 7 Septembe
Today, take a ride on one of the world's greatest railway experiences, the North Yorkshire Moors Railway as we travel through 24 miles of spectacular Yorkshire scenery to the coastal town of Whitby. There are beautiful historic stations along the route including 1930s themed Pickering Station and Goathland made famous in the first Harry Potter film. Whitby is a beautiful seaside town with quaint cobbled streets, locally-owned shops and quirky cafes. Known as the Jewel in the Crown of the North Yorkshire Coast, Whitby sits on the River Esk where it flows into the sea. There are towering cliffs, dramatic landscapes and a stunning natural harbour. We return to the hotel in time for dinner.

After a full English breakfast we travel to Castle Howard, a beautiful stately home in wonderful grounds. The friendly and knowledgeable guides will be on hand to share stories with you as you explore a treasure trove of inspiring architecture and interiors and world-renowned collections. The construction of the house was completed around 1811 and was made famous in the television series Brideshead Revisited. With 1,000 acres of parkland to explore, Castle Howard is a haven of peace and tranquillity. With woodland walks, temples, lakes and fountains there are breathtaking views at every turn. There are gift shops, garden centres and several cafes to enjoy during your visit.

After a full English breakfast we return home to South Devon with comfort stops on route.
