The Massed Bands of the Royal Marines have performed at the Royal Albert Hall for over 40 years. Originally these concerts were given in commemoration of Sir Malcolm Sargent who, for some 20 years, was the Honorary Musical Advisor to the Royal Marines Band Service. Following the death of Earl Mountbatten of Burma, who was Life Colonel Commandant Royal Marines, the concerts were renamed in 1980. The link with Sir Malcolm Sargent continues through the charity, CLIC Sargent, which together with Royal Navy and Royal Marines charities, is the principal beneficiary of the money raised by these concerts.

Saturday 5th March

Leaving Devon bright and early we travel to our hotel for an early dinner, before crossing London to the Royal Albert Hall for the evening performance of the Massed Bands of Her Majesty's Royal Marines - The Mountbatten Festival of Music. The festival sees the Royal Marines showcase their incredible musicianship and pageantry and features a wide range of musical styles, including music from the big screen and superb solo items, as well as the traditional marches and overtures that have proved such a hit with audiences over the years. After this wonderful festival we travel to our overnight hotel to enjoy a good night's sleep.

Sunday 6th March

After a full cooked buffet English breakfast we make our way back to the Royal Albert Hall where we can view this amazing venue from a different angle, we'll discover how the building was funded, the royal love story that nearly stopped it from being built, and how we solved one of the UK's most enduring engineering challenges - the Royal Albert Hall echo! You might even be lucky enough to hear a legendary artist in soundcheck! We depart here early afternoon for the return journey back to Devon.
