Situated on the banks of the River Ouse, The Queens Hotel is ideally located for the many shops, restaurants, and is within easy walking distance of York Minister and the National Railway Museum. Step out of the hotel into a world of history and explore York, from medieval times to modern day. Very few cities in England are able to boast such an exciting mix of cultures, whether you choose to stroll through the Snickleways of York, take in a gallery or museum, visit the bustling shopping streets or just relax in one of the many wine bars and restaurants.

Friday 24th March

We depart from Devon to make our way to York, arriving at our hotel before dinner.


Saturday 25th March

After breakfast your days are free to explore York. Some of the highlights include York Minster, the largest Gothic Cathedral in Northern Europe. Taking over 250 years to build, you can get the best views over York by climbing to the top of the Central Tower. York's Chocolate Story to hear scrumptious confectionery tales detailing how York became the home of chocolate. You can take a tour, see a demonstration with a master chocolatier and even make your very own lollipop to take home. Stroll down the Shambles, the oldest and most photographed street. Break for lunch or afternoon tea at Bettys Café Tea Rooms. The National Railway Museum has a world-class collection of locomotives from the Flying Scotsman to Mallard and Queen Victoria's vintage carriages. This is the largest railway museum in the world. York Castle Museum to see Kirkgate, the recreated Victorian Street, and to experience the swinging Sixties! Clifford's Tower is a great place to take a bird's eye view of the city. Climb the steps of this iconic landmark and find out more about William the Conqueror. Don't miss the JORVIK Viking Centre where you'll travel back in time to Viking age York and discover the sights, sounds and smells of the city. Hop aboard a City Cruises York boat for a relaxing cruise on the River Ouse, from afternoon tea cruises to floodlit evening cruises. Walk the city walls for a perfect end to the day. They're the most complete and best-preserved medieval walls in England. After a full day head back to the hotel for dinner.

After breakfast you have another free day to explore this great city.


Monday 27th March

After a full English breakfast we return home to Devon.
