We travel to our hotel in Ipswich, Suffolk with comfort stops on route.
DTuesday 9th May
Today we enjoy a tour along the picturesque Suffolk coast, starting with a visit to Southwold, complete with its famous painted beach huts and lovely pier, before continuing to the pretty village of Thorpeness, with its pretty mock Tudor houses and the fairytale 'House in the Clouds'. Enjoy a stroll around the Meare - a boating lake like no other! The lake covers some 60 acres and the islands in the Meare were named by J M Barrie, the creator of Peter Pan. Marvel at the beautiful architecture, visit the cafes and the antique emporium.
D, FEWednesday 10th May
After breakfast, we make our way to the Suffolk Punch Trust to find out more about these wonderful, endangered horses. The breed is the oldest English breed of working heavy horse. Afterwards, we enjoy a visit to the world-famous Anglo Saxon burial site of Sutton Hoo (National Trust). The hauntingly beautiful 255-acre estate is home to one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of all time. We discover the story of the ship burial of an Anglo-Saxon king, with a burial mound guided tour. Explore the atmospheric 7th-century Royal Burial Ground and discover more about the world of the Anglo-Saxons and the incredible objects unearthed at Sutton Hoo. Venture into Tranmer House, the former home of Edith Pretty to discover more about the archaeological work that has taken place at Sutton Hoo. (Please note, the walk to the burial mounds is a 10-15 minute outdoor walk on flat ground. Passengers who are less mobile can visit the exhibition, café and small shop).
D, FEThursday 11th May
After a full English breakfast we are joined by a local experienced guide for a half day tour of Constable Country. This will include East Bergholt, birthplace of the famous painter and Flatford Mill. Our Guide will take us on a gentle guided walk at Flatford to see the sites of John Constable's paintings including the famous Haywain. We have free time in the afternoon to relax in Ipswich, wander around the marina or simply enjoy the surroundings of our hotel.
D, FEFriday 12th May
After a full English breakfast we return home to South Devon with stops on route.
