DSaturday 1st July
We enjoy a full day in Wells today, the smallest city in England. Small but perfectly formed, Wells offers numerous historical marvels such as the famous 14th century Astronomical Clock, The Bishop's Palace & Gardens and, of course, the outstanding cathedral. We start our day at the popular outdoor street market held every Saturday in Wells Market Place, where you can browse a selection of local produce and goods. Spend the afternoon at leisure, exploring the charming city, including the beautiful 'must-see' Wells Cathedral, built from around 1175. Enjoy a guided tour, taking in highlights such as the magnificent West Front, the stunning stained glass Jesse Window, the Cathedral Clock and the Scissor Arches. We also enjoy a cream tea during our visit.
D, FESunday 2nd July
After breakfast in the hotel, we head home to South Devon stopping in Glastonbury on the way. Why not visit Glastonbury Abbey (entrance fee not included) - connected with legend to a degree that is unparalleled by any other abbey in England? Since Medieval times it has held legendary status as the earliest Christian foundation in Britain linked to Joseph of Arimathea and the burial place of King Arthur. We arrive back in Devon early evening.
