Beautiful Southern Ireland

Explore the delights of Ireland's Ancient East. Enjoy a true taste of traditional Ireland, with visits to world-famous gardens, breathtaking rural scenery and a tour of the living museum of Lullymore. Known as the ‘Garden of Ireland’, County Wicklow is a region of beautiful scenery and some of Ireland’s best-preserved remains. Overlooked by the Wicklow Mountains — with their domed granite peaks, deep glens and wooded valleys — you’ll see some of the finest countryside in Ireland. Plus a visit to the vibrant capital city of Dublin.

 

Arklow Bay Hotel****

This Hotel is located on the outskirts of the town and set back from the bay itself. The hotels grounds include a lovely pond and a walkway beside the dunes. It is a 15/20 minute walk to the centre of Arklow and to the sea itself. On entry to the hotel, there is a large, light, comfortable lounge/reception area. Opposite reception is large bar with plenty of seating and a friendly atmosphere. Taking either 5 steps from the reception or the lift is the modern, but very welcoming, split level restaurant which was refreshed in 2017. The hotel has 91 spacious guest bedrooms and the majority are twin or double room. There are no actual single rooms at the hotel. The majority are bath with shower over, though 16 rooms have walk in showers with a step up and into. Leisure facilities are in a separate building and include pool, sauna, jacuzzi and steam room.

ID requirements

If you are a British citizen, you do not need a passport to enter Ireland. However, some carriers and airlines might require identification. Irish immigration officers check the ID of all passengers arriving by air from the UK and might ask for proof of British nationality, particularly if you were born outside the UK. You should take your British passport with you. Check the Ireland Citizens Information Board for guidance on acceptable ID.

You do not need ID to cross the border between Northern Ireland and Ireland.

Visa requirements

British citizens do not need a visa to visit Ireland. Ireland, along with the UK, is a member of the Common Travel Area (CTA). UK nationals do not need a visa or residency permit to live, work or study in Ireland.

PASSENGER TRAVEL DOCUMENTS ON ROUTES BETWEEN BRITAIN AND IRELAND

 

UK and Irish citizens travelling on our routes between Britain and Ireland do not need a passport to travel to Britain or Ireland but are advised to take a form of proof of identity. A valid passport or Irish passport card, photographic driving license, International Student Card, government issued photographic ID card, health insurance/social security photographic ID card, photographic bus/train pass or work ID card with photo will usually suffice. A birth certificate will provide adequate proof of identity for children (17 years and under with no photographic identification) to travel on our sailings. Non UK/Irish citizens will require a valid passport and a visa where applicable. You should check with the relevant embassy before travelling regarding visa requirements.

 

Tuesday 27th August

We leave Devon and head to South Wales for our ferry crossing to Rosslare in Southern Ireland. Arriving at our hotel in time for dinner.

Wednesday 28th Aug

After breakfast we travel across the wilds of the Wicklow Mountains to the picturesque village of Enniskerry, with its picture postcard cottages, before the short hop to Powerscourt Estate set in 47 acres of magnificent gardens. We then continue on to the capital city of Dublin.

Thursday 29th August

Take the scenic route through the Wicklow Mountains National Park to 'Beyond the Trees'. An accessible 1.3km tree top walk with viewing tower, visitor centre, walled gardens and courtyards to explore. Here, you will also find Avondale House former home of the Parnells and where Charles Stewart Parnell, one of Ireland's most well-known political leaders was born. Enjoy a living history tour with costumed characters. Return to the hotel via the delightful village of Glendalough, an area renowned for its natural beauty.

Friday 30th August

After breakfast today, Slip over the border into Kildare to the Bog of Allen for a guided tour of the award winning Lullymore Heritage Centre and Discovery Park. Try your hand at traditional peat cutting and take a ride on the Peatland Heritage Railway, before heading back to Co. Wicklow and a tour of Russborough House, said to be Ireland's most beautiful Georgian house.

Saturday 31 August

With an early start to catch our ferry to South Wales, breakfast will be on board the ferry this morning. Arriving back in Fishguard late morning, we make our way home to South Devon.
