Job Description: Apprentice Engineer
Principal duties:
Train in all aspects of heavy vehicle engineering.
Assist a qualified technician with PSV & HGV servicing, repair and testing.
Vehicle cleaning including steam pressure cleaning.
Produce accurate paperwork records.
Keep the yard and workshops clean which includes sweeping and emptying bins.
Help maintain the workshop premises and the equipment.
Assist with large vehicle movements and parking, this includes shunting vehicle within the yard once you are confident operating them.
Report any vehicle damage or defects that you notice to your Line Manager.
You may be required to work at Kingsbridge or Lee Mill depots.
Skills and requirements:
You should have a strong interest in vehicles and mechanics.
You need to be fit and strong; there is some heavy physical work involved.
You should not mind working in a dirty environment.
It is important that you can work quickly and make decisions in a balanced manner
Training & Qualifications:
It is vital that the applicant has s good standard of English & Mathematics.
You must be prepared to undertake NVQ Level 2 training in HGGV / PSV engineering or coach building with a view to moving to level 3, the level required to complete your training.
Undertake a PSV driving test at a time agreed with the company.
Health & Safety:
Employ good risk management techniques when working on and with vehicles. The garage is a high risk area that demands great care at all times.
Wear appropriate clothing and safety equipment at all times.
Adhere to the COSH requirements when handling cleaning materials and chemicals.
