Thursday 7th August
Leaving Devon early morning, we travel to The Warner Brothers Studio at Leavesden for a fabulous tour of the Harry Potter filming locations. We have tickets for 2:00 pm, and will leave about 20:00 and travel to our hotel. You can purchase dinner at The Backlot Café half way through your tour- burgers, hotdogs or salads are available. Frothy Butterbeer; a non-alcoholic beverage reminiscent of shortbread and butterscotch, available in souvenir tankards is also available. Alternatively enjoy a delicious Butterbeer Ice cream, which is available in a crispy cone or souvenir sundae dish.
The Great Hall served as a backdrop to some of the film's most iconic scenes such as the Yule Ball and the Battle of Hogwarts. The Forbidden Forest seen in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's stone was made up of 19 trees each with a diameter of over 12 feet and backdrops created by artists over 600 feet in length. The Hogwarts Express locomotive transported hundreds of students from Platform 9¾ to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The Hogwarts Express provided the background for the very first shot ever captured for Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and then, ten years later, for the very last shot of the entire series in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2. You will see Diagon Alley which changed considerably throughout the series of films. Discover hundreds of props from the films including 950 potion jars, 900 memory vials for Professor Dumbledore's office, Weasley's Wizard Wheezes and the Puking Pastilles dispenser! Learn all about the special effects used to make Harry and his friends fly and how magical creatures were brought to life on screen. See how the sets were created from technical scale models. The jewel in the crown in the art department is the intricately designed model of Hogwarts Castle. Model makers installed more than 2,500 fibre optic lights which simulate lanterns and torches. Enjoy viewing all the fantastic costumes - from the exquisite designs produced for the Yule Ball to challenging uniforms which turned the wizarding sport of Quidditch into a real sport.
