The Arboretum is an evolving, maturing woodland landscape with over 30,000 trees forming a unique living tribute. From Dawn Redwoods to London Planes, the trees tell stories of military exploits from across the world. We also visit Chatsworth House in the heart of the Peak District, the seat of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, has been home to the Cavendish family since 1549 and is one of Englands most stunning stately homes.
With free-time to visit Matlock Bath and Bakewell, this holiday offers the very best of the Peak District.
The hotel centres around a large atrium in the reception area overlooked by balconies on each floor. The hotel has a heated indoor swimming pool. We leave Devon and make our way to Derby and check in to our hotel with time to relax and use the leisure facilities before dinner.
DMonday 1st Sept
After a full English breakfast, we head Chatsworth House, home to the Devonshire family, it's been passed down through 17 generations. Today, Chatsworth is cared for by a registered charity, which preserves the house, garden & parkland for everyone to enjoy. There are over 20 rooms to explore, including the magnificent painted hall, regal state rooms & atmospheric sculpture gallery. Don't forget to take a wander around the 105 acre garden, famous for its rich history, sculptures & Victorian rock garden.
D, L, FETuesday 2nd Sept
Today we travel to the National Memorial Arboretum with over 150 acres of trees and memorials devoted to the concept of Remembrance. 50,000 trees have been planted and as each tree matures it will provide a variety of woodland areas and open grass spaces. The aim of this living memorial is to offer families and friends of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country a green and pleasant land to remember their loved ones from all over the world. The rivers Tame and Trent flow through the site and there is an abundance of birdlife and wildlife to be seen, especially in the meadows and on the rivers. There are over 200 dedicated plots on this site to individuals and organizations including military, civilian victims of war, the Police, Fire Brigade and Ambulance services, charities, local and overseas organizations. A good way to explore this emotional site is take the land train where you can hop on/off as you please and an entire journey on this train will take around 50 minutes. Pie & mash lunch is included.

Our first stop today is Bakewell, perhaps best known for its unique pudding. Matlock Bath is our second destination of the day, it boasts quirky shops, cafes & visitor attractions, as well as peaceful paths for shady strolls alongside the river Derwent.

After breakfast, we make our way home to South Devon with stops on route.
