Book NowHome to one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of all time, Sutton Hoo is where you will find stories of kings, mysterious mounds and buried treasure. It is the site of an Anglo-Saxon royal burial site dating back 1400 years. In 1939 archaeologists made a remarkable discovery as they opened the largest burial mound and found an undisturbed Anglo-Saxon ship burial.
We explore the lazy rivers, tranquil villages and rural scenery of Englands Constable Country, where well be guided to the sites of four of Constables paintings including the Haywain. Visit the pretty seaside town of Aldeburgh, home of Benjamin Britten, where pastel-coloured cottages line the promenade. We continue on along the Suffolk coast to the fairytale House in the Clouds at Thorpeness and rounding off our time in Suffolk with avisit to Beth Chatto Gardens, created by award-winning gardener, author and lecturer Beth Chatto OBE VMH, who won 10 gold medals at the Chelsea Flower Show, in the 70s and 80s.

DMonday 19th May
Today we enjoy a tour along the picturesque Suffolk coast, starting with a visit to Aldeburgh, made famous by its connection to Benjamin Britten, pastel-coloured 19th century villas line the promenade and to the east, the pebble beach with fisherman's huts selling the daily catch. The town is famous for its outstanding fish and chips with the local fish and chip shop, owned by the Cooney family. We the continue to the pretty village of Thorpeness, with its pretty mock Tudor houses and the fairytale 'House in the Clouds'. Enjoy a stroll around the Meare - a boating lake like no other! The lake covers some 60 acres and the islands in the Meare were named by J M Barrie, the creator of Peter Pan. Marvel at the beautiful architecture, visit the cafes and the antique emporium.
D, FETuesday 20th May
After a full English breakfast we are joined by a local experienced guide for a half day tour of Constable Country. This will include East Bergholt, birthplace of the famous painter and Flatford Mill. Our Guide will take us on a gentle guided walk at Flatford to see the sites of John Constable's paintings including the famous Haywain. Afterwards we travel the short distance to Beth Chatto Gardens. This 7.5 acre garden, based on ecological planting: the right plant for the right place. Created by award-winning gardener, author and lecturer Beth Chatto OBE VMH, who won 10 gold medals at the Chelsea Flower Show, in the 70s and 80s.
D, FEWednesday 21st May
After breakfast, we enjoy a visit to the world-famous Anglo Saxon burial site of Sutton Hoo (National Trust). The hauntingly beautiful 255-acre estate is home to one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of all time. Discover the story of the ship burial of an Anglo-Saxon king, with a burial mound guided tour. Explore the atmospheric 7th-century Royal Burial Ground and discover more about the world of the Anglo-Saxons and the incredible objects unearthed at Sutton Hoo. Venture into Tranmer House, the former home of Edith Pretty to discover more about the archaeological work that has taken place at Sutton Hoo. (Please note, the walk to the burial mounds is a 10-15 minute outdoor walk on flat ground. Passengers who are less mobile can visit the exhibition, café and small shop)

After a full English breakfast we return home to South Devon with stops on route.
