Rule Britannia, Downton Style

Pack a picnic, chill the fizz and join us on the lawns of the ‘Real Downton Abbey’ for an unforgettable summer concert featuring iconic pieces from film, TV and the musicals alongside much-loved classical favourites performed by the New English Concert Orchestra.

 

There’s so much more to enjoy: Sing along to vintage classics with the Battle Proms Belles, learn to jive with the glamourous Victory Swing dancers, and revel in breathtaking displays from the iconic Grace Spitfire, The Red Devils Parachute Team, The Worcestershire Cavalry and over 200 live firing cannons!

 

The perfect summer evening culminates in a jubilant flag-waving, sing-along finale led by star soprano Denise Leigh, with Jerusalem, Rule Brittania!, Land of Hope and Glory and more, under a sky of dazzling fireworks.

Saturday 1st August

Leaving Devon we make our way to our hotel, with time to check in before we
re-board the coach & travel to Highclere Castle, the gates open 4pm. Enjoy a full late afternoon and evening of the following entertainment. A Grazing Box Picnic is included. Bring a deckchair and refreshment if required.
* Join in with sensational swing dancing and visit the fascinating vintage living history displays
* The Battle Proms Cavalry take you on a horseback journey through time exploring British cavalry through the ages.
* The Red Devils parachute display team arrive in style
* The Battle Proms Belles will get the toes tapping and the Champagne corks popping!
* Get your flags ready as the legendary Grace Spitfire takes to the skies
* A programme of uplifting and inspiring music you know and love from the New English Concert Orchestra
* Enjoy the incredible talents of young soloists playing select pieces alongside the orchestra
* Highly acclaimed soprano Denise Leigh sings beautiful arias from famed operas and leads the sing-along finale
* Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture and Beethoven's 'Battle Symphony' with over 200 live cannon shots, musket-fire and fireworks!
* The classic 'last night of the proms' finale, with Jerusalem, Rule Britannia, Land of Hope and Glory and more
* The perfect summer evening closes with magnificent musical firework displays.
Finishing at approx. 10pm we return, by our coach to the Marriott hotel.

Sunday 2nd August

After a leisurely breakfast, we travel into Oxford for a few hours to shop or sightsee before returning home mid-afternoon.

4pm Gates Open - Unpack the picnic and uncork the wine, then settle in for a fabulous afternoon and evening of spectacular entertainment.

 

4pm to 5.30pm - Before the concert begins join the fabulous Victory Swing dancers and Q-four jazz band for some sensational moves.

 

5.45pm Cavalry Display - Enjoy skill-at-arms displays in a variety of historic regalia.

 

6.15pm The Red Devils - The Parachute Regiment and British Army’s official display team perform their spectacular freefall demonstration in the skies above the concert.

 

6.30pm The Battle Prom Belles - The perfect warm-up to get the toes tapping!

 

7.25pm The evening gun salute.

 

7.30pm Spitfire Air Display

 

7.30pm The Musical Programme - The evening continues within an uplifting celebration of inspiring classical favourites.

 

10pm Firework Finale
